This session discusses how to create an organized program for identifying and developing future leaders to fill senior leadership positions within your organization. Participants learn the important steps, and receive tools to adapt to their workplace in order to create a documented approach for creating the leaders of tomorrow.

Students will learn:

• The importance of Succession Planning, and the payoff

• A five step process to a complete succession planning program

• Deciding what makes a position “critical”, and establishing a database of competencies and using it to document the requisite factors for success in a critical position

• Methods for identifying high-potential employees and assessing their current levels of competence

• How to create and implement development plans for high potential staff

• Typical analytics for evaluating program effectiveness.

About the Speaker:

Jim Lewis served as Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for NSF International in Ann Arbor, Michigan during a 26 year career with the company. His responsibilities as a CHRO included all HR functions at over forty locations in eighteen countries, including recruiting and retention, benefits and compensation, training, organizational development, employee relations including litigation management, and strategic planning. He has also provided due diligence for, and integration of seventeen corporate acquisitions in eight countries. He was the winner of the Arbor Award for HR Excellence, and Jim was named 2010 HR Executive of the Year by the American Society of Employers. He is an adjunct faculty member at Cleary University, and has been a guest lecturer at Eastern Michigan University, Wayne State University, and with the American Society of Employers.

Jim is Board Chair at the HR Certification Institute, located in Alexandria, Virginia. He also serves as Chair for the Geneva, Switzerland-based ISO Technical Committee 260, leading more than 50 national delegations in developing global standards for the human resource field. He served the Society for Human Resource Management as a two-term member of the HR Metrics and Human Capital Management Panel, and as a judge for the SHRM National Human Capital Leadership Awards.

Jim holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and a Master of Science degree in International Administration. He also holds certifications as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and as a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR).

REFUND POLICY

If you are unable to attend a chapter event and wish to cancel your registration, you must notify the AHRM Board Secretary no later than the Friday prior to the event at 4pm. If you notify us prior to 4pm on the Friday prior to the event, you will receive a refund for your payment. If you are unable to notify us prior to this time, no refunds will be given. If you register for an event but choose to pay at a later date, but do not attend the event (or cancel within the specified timeframe) you will still be invoiced for the payment.
