AHRM Newsletter June 2026
Message from the President

Welcome to the very first newsletter from SHRM Grand Rapids!
We are thrilled to officially come to you as a unified chapter following the exciting merger of AHRM Grand Rapids and Human Resources Group (HRG). This merger represents more than a new name — it reflects a shared commitment to strengthening and advancing the HR profession across our local community.
As SHRM Grand Rapids, we look forward to growing our membership, expanding opportunities for networking and professional development, and continuing to support HR professionals at every stage of their careers. The enthusiasm surrounding this merger has been incredible, and we are excited about the opportunities ahead as we come together as one HR community.
As we continue building SHRM Grand Rapids together, you may notice a few items still being finalized as we complete the integration process. Our team is working diligently to ensure a smooth experience for all members, and we’re excited about the strong foundation we are creating for the future:
- We are currently building a consolidated membership database and new website. Members of HRG and AHRM will receive guidance soon regarding their accounts and access to the SHRM Grand Rapids website. In the meantime, www.ahrm.net is active until you hear otherwise.
- Planned AHRM Chapter programming and networking opportunities will continue as planned for the remainder of 2026.
- SHRM Grand Rapids will continue to offer both SHRM and HRCI recertification
credits, ensuring no disruption to your certification progress. - SHRM Grand Rapids will continue to operate as a Dual Member Release (DMR) chapter, with all the benefits SHRM offers for that designation.
- All branding will be converted over time to represent the update to SHRM Grand Rapids.
Over the next couple of months, we have some exciting things planned. To start, our first chapter meeting as SHRM Grand Rapids is July 8th and we have an exciting speaker planned. Mike Aitken, Executive Vice President of Membership and Communities for SHRM, is visiting with our chapter for one of his last exclusive speaking engagements before retiring at the end of this year. Please visit www.ahrm.net to register.
Also, on July 22nd we have a happy hour planned to usher in our new chapter. Come and network with HR professionals from both chapters, on the roof-top at AEBetancourt from 4:30 – 6:30pm. Beverages and light appetizers will be provided – stick around for a wine-pull to benefit the SHRM Foundation. Please visit www.ahrm.net to register.
Thank you for being part of SHRM Grand Rapids. We are excited for the future and grateful to have you with us as we continue building a vibrant and impactful HR community!
President,
Robin Wondergem, SHRM-CP
